The Kiwanis Incredible Duck Splash

Will return to Lake Glendale on October 18, 2008

The Kiwanis Incredible Duck Splash (acronym "KIDS") was held for the first time in Glendale, California, on September 10, 2005, produced by the Kiwanis Club of Glendale. The event is most often called a "Duck Race" by the more than 200 event producers throughout the United States and Canada as well as in Europe, Latin America, and Asia. From 5,000 to 120,000 or more yellow rubber ducks "race" to a finish line to earn automobiles, travel packages, and other great prizes for their "adoptive" owners, matched by a unique number on a tag on the bottom of each duck.

The "race" is generally conducted on a lake, or in a river or canal, though it need not be on water - other arrangements can be made to determine the winning ducks. The Glendale race producers created "Lake Glendale" which was again on display for the 2006 and 2007 splashes.

The beneficiaries of the charitable fundraising event are primarily children and youth in Glendale and neighboring cities throughout Los Angeles County. The participating non-profit organizations are listed at this website.

The event experts, Great American Merchandise and Events ("GAME"), have published a "white paper" report on our inaugural "KIDS" event: "Build It and They Will Come: Glendale, California Kiwanis' New Philanthropy Project is a Crowd Pleasing Success."

On both Saturday, October 21, 2006 and Saturday, October 20, 2007 the Annual Kiwanis Incredible Duck Splash was again a great success with entertainment, games, food & beverage, and the exciting races for super prizes at Verdugo Park, 1621 Canada Blvd (across the street from Glendale Community College). The Grand Opening of Duck Season kicked off the duck adoption campaign both years at the fountain in front of Olive Garden Restaurant in the Glendale City Center on Brand Blvd.

The ducks will return to "Lake Glendale" on Saturday, October 18, 2008 for another fantastic event. Check the Prizes page for the 2007 adoptive winners of the cash prizes, the Duck Buddies page for the 2007 list of successful nonprofit and school teams, and the Photo Album for a pictorial documentary of the quacktivities. And we hope you enjoy the special edition Duck Race Newsletter 2007. Save the date October 18, 2008 for the Fourth Annual return of the unique flock of ducks to "Lake Glendale" to benefit numerous worthy charitable causes!
